About Us
Who are We:
We are High Tech High North County's class of 2017. High Tech High North County is a public charter high school located in San Marcos, California, a branch from the High Tech High organization. As a non traditional high school, we foster an all inclusive project based learning model. This means we encourage students of all skill levels to work together in a collaborative environment to create hands on learning experiences. HTHNC provides learning experiences that are more applicable and prepare students for real world interactions. We love to build, create, and investigate through projects, but we are also keen on outreaching to our local greater communities, something that is deeply rooted at our school's core. Everything we do at HTHNC has a purpose greater than just ourselves, and that is why we are bringing to you the Mind The Gap Symposium.
What We're doing:
The Mind The Gap symposium is a completely student-created and run event focused on giving a voice to all members in the community regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, social class, sexuality, citizenship status, or background. Together we are going to discuss what factors are creating the socioeconomic divide. Is it race? Is it gender? Is it education? Is it our family background? Come join us and answer the question: How real is the American Dream? As an active audience member you will be able to listen in on some panelists present their expertise, participate in discourse, ask questions, or drop a comment for the rest of the panelists and audience members to hear. We hope to see you there!
about the event
What to Expect:
During the symposium, there will be eight panels during two one hour session. There will be four panels from 5:00-6:00 and four panels from 6:15-7:15. Each panel covers a different sub-topic or question within the overall topic of the symposium, gaps in the road to the American Dream.
Each room will include a panel comprised of community member and student panelist and moderator to facilitate the discourse. Many of our panels will also include a performance at the beginning of the panel that relates to the topic being discussed. Please review the panel descriptions below to select which panel or panels you would like to attend!
As an active audience member, you will be able to listen to presentations, as well as ask questions and participate in discourse with the entire panel.
We invite you to attend one panel session, either A or B, and then join us on the courtyard for other activities and discourse we have prepared for you! Of course, you may attend both sessions. There will be time after the final panel and keynote speaker to gather for a brief reception on the courtyard.
